The European Conference on Tobacco or Health (ECToH) is held every three years and unites hundreds of influential advocates, researchers, academics, non-governmental organisations, civil society, scientists, healthcare professionals and public officials working on all aspects of tobacco control from around Europe.
The European Conference on Tobacco or Health (ECToH) 2026
The 10th edition of the European Conference on Tobacco or Health will be held in Milan, Italy, from 20-22 May 2026. This milestone edition, hosted by the Italian League Against Cancer under the auspices of the Association of European Cancer Leagues (ECL), marks three decade of progress in the fight against tobacco and nicotine and will focus on how we can create healthier cities across Europe.
ECToH Milan 2026 – “Nicotine-Free Spaces for Healthier Cities” – reflects a critical vision for the future. In the coming years, our cities must become more than just places to live — they must be environments that actively promote health, well-being, and sustainability. To achieve this, we must clear our urban spaces of tobacco, nicotine, and all emerging products — from schools and parks to streets and public transport hubs.
Previous editions
The 9th ECToH took place from 26 to 28 April 2023 in Madrid, with the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC) and the National Committee on Tobacco Prevention (CNPT) as the hosts of the Congress. This year’s ECToH focused on younger generations, promoting health equity in tobacco prevention and setting as the main goal a Tobacco-Free Generation where less than 5% of the population uses tobacco by 2040. This is the objective established within the Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan (EBCP), approved by the European Parliament in February 2021.
